Here Meditation’s window display for St’Artup 317

Joey Bauchle is a multi talented artist who uses different mediums to create mandala type designs. She is excited to be a part of the St’Artup 317 program, and hopes to bring awareness to the work she does!

Tell us about yourself and your business?

Of course! I am the artist of JoHenna Designs, and I started out as a henna artist back in 2012. Shortly after that I started my journey with visual art, and I mainly work with acrylic, sometimes watercolor, and ink drawings. When I create my art, I focus on mandala designs that are typically very colorful and contain a lot of intricacy and small details.

What's been the best part and worst part of owning your own business or art practice?

So there are a lot of different things! The best things are that I get to do what I love everyday!  I am also able to make my own schedule for the most part, and I am available to take up different opportunities, like the St’Artup 317 program. The worst part is that the work never stops, and there is always something to do. But, if you do not work you cannot build your business well.

Tell us about your St'Artup 317 window display. Where did the idea come from, how long did it take you to plan and execute, etc?

When I signed up for the St’Artup 317 program I did not know how big the space would be because that comes later. For the overall theme, though, I created a home-like setting with more of a focus on visual art, and that came about because instead of just putting pieces on a temporary wall I had the room to create a more expanded display with furniture and home goods. Overall, the planning process took a couple weeks of brainstorming and coming up with the layout, and the actual installation took about 4 hours.

What do you hope to get out of this experience?

Obviously exposure is part of it, but I wanted to get practice doing things like this because I hope in the future to do other window displays or installations. Also, the display is able to teach people about where they can see my art and what I do. It serves as a cool way to connect with my clients who are excited to go see the display!
